DIY - Turmeric + Yogurt Ayurvedic Face Masks

Dana Cutolo

So, I've gotten a lot of questions about using the Turmeric Balm as a face mask, and how that differs from using Turmeric powder on the face. Turmeric is enormously powerful and effective at calming inflammation but topically and internally.

Turmeric is: brightening, soothing, anti-inflammatory, exfoliating + … damn beautiful!

There are two main ways to use Turmeric topically:

  1. Balm / Cream: a balm is used to essentially keep an herb in place on your skin so that it can heal - the turmeric balm is made with a base of shea and local beeswax which also helps to nourish and moisturize the skin. Using the balm as a spot treatment or hydrating mask is a simple and effective way to use turmeric.

  2. As a DIY mask: do you have a lot of powdered turmeric? Awesome! Infuse it in oil, or use it with flour + yogurt as a hydrating + brightening mask. Yogurt has all the good acne fighting probiotic bacteria so it's a great mask base!

TURMERIC + YOGURT FACE MASK

What you'll need:

Turmeric Powder

Brown Rice Flour
(you can sub regular flour if you don't have this!)

Yogurt (Regular, no flavor)
*coconut or regular yogurt for hydrating*

Mixing bowl

Dark towel (turmeric stains!)

Facial Mask Brush

How to Prepare:

Mix 2 parts Turmeric + 1 part flour

Slowly add powders to yogurt and mix until desired consistency and light yellow color develop

Apply to face, leave on for 15-30 minutes

Rinse with cold water -or- remove with cold towel (I put mine in the freezer for a couple minutes)

Apply a serum or moisturizing lightweight oil like the Cannabis Serum
